IDEAS | DIY Tablecloth Art

Turn an old white tablecloth into your own creative canvas this May Bank Holiday. All you need are two textile pens and a little imagination…

Looking to transform your next mealtime? This long weekend, embrace a little creativity with a fun, colourful project that brings new life to an old classic: the white tablecloth.

Whether it’s a second-hand treasure or a charity shop find, all you need to get started are : 1) two textile pens in your favourite colours and a white tablecloth

Here’s how to do it:

2) Start by laying the tablecloth on your dining table. Position your plates as you would for a typical table setting . Consider adding a protective under-sheet to absorb any access ink from textile pens

3)Use your textile pen to carefully trace around the circumference of each plate. Once you've outlined your setting, remove the plates.

4) Around each circle, add a second outline — this is your frame to play with. Try a wavy border, a contrasting colour, or a delicate dotted line. It’s your space to make your mark.

Repeat the process with your cutlery, glasses, serving jug — even outline a favourite dish or two. Add in little illustrations: olives, lemons, a bunch of grapes or even a handwritten menu.

Follow the textile pen instructions to set the design — usually a quick iron or a gentle wash will do the trick. Voila !

Wishing all of our customers a relaxing bank holiday weekend what ever you get up to - Alistair, Founder of Curateology
