Ideas and Inspiration for Festive Tables

Bring creativity and colour to your festive table with these five simple, sustainable projects for the whole family

POM POMS

Bring a burst of colour and creativity to your festive table with pom poms — playful, affordable, and endlessly versatile. Use them to craft napkin rings, hanging decorations, or cheerful garlands for the tree and table. You can even go bold and design your own centrepiece or wreath.

All you need are felt pom poms, a needle, thread, and a touch of glue. It’s an easy, hands-on way to add personality and colour to your celebrations — proof that thoughtful design doesn’t have to be costly.

ROSEMARY GARLANDS

Natural, aromatic, and effortlessly elegant — rosemary garlands are a beautiful way to bring a touch of greenery to your festive table. You’ll need long stems of rosemary, ribbon, string, and a stapler.

Take a single stem and gently shape it into a small circle. Use a strip of ribbon to staple the join, adding a short length of string before securing. Finish with a neatly tied bow, fixed in place with a staple or a dab of glue.

Repeat to create a series of miniature wreaths — perfect as napkin rings, table accents, or hung from the tree. The result: a simple, sensory decoration that blends rustic charm with a refined festive feel.

AIR-DRY CLAY DECORATIONS

For a project that’s as calming to make as it is beautiful to display, try creating your own air-dry clay decorations. Roll out the clay on a piece of fabric — this helps prevent sticking and adds a subtle, natural texture to the surface. Aim for an even thickness of around 0.5cm.

Using cookie cutters, stamp out your chosen shapes and don’t forget to create a small hole at the top for hanging. For added detail, gently press foliage or textured fabric onto the surface to create organic patterns.

Leave your pieces to dry naturally for two to three days, and they’ll be ready to hang on the tree, tie to napkins, or scatter along the table for a handmade festive touch.

PINE CONE WREATH

Bring the beauty of the outdoors into your festive styling with a handcrafted pine cone wreath — simple to make, endlessly adaptable, and full of rustic charm. Start by collecting loose pine cones and fitting each with a small eyelet screw (around 7x14mm); brass works beautifully for a touch of warmth and festive shine.

Next, take a metal coat hanger and bend it into a circular shape. Using pliers, open one end of the wire and begin threading on the pine cones one by one until the frame is completely full. Once finished, twist the ends securely back into place.

Leave the wreath natural for an understated look, or add ribbon, berries, or small ornaments for extra texture and colour. Perfect as a table centrepiece or a welcoming decoration for your door — a simple project with endless styling possibilities.

RIBBONS

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest impact. Ribbons are an easy, inexpensive way to elevate your festive styling — wrap them around napkins, tealights, or candles for a touch of understated elegance.

Mix colours, textures, and widths to complement your table palette, or use leftover lengths to tie place settings or hang decorations. From velvet and satin to natural linen, ribbons bring softness, colour, and a sense of considered detail to every festive table.
